Tällä hetkellä minulla on koneella kolme linuxia: Debian 4, Slackware 12 ja PCLinuxOS. Kaikki toimivat hyvin, tosin yritykset virittää Compiz/Beryl eivät ole onnistuneet tai ovat muuten toistaiseksi jääneet.

PCLinuxOS on erittäin kehuttu Linux. Nyt minua kuitenkin haluttaisi asentaa sen tilalle Mandriva 2007 Spring Free Linux Format lehden DVD:ltä. Erityisesti haluttaisi kokeilla Metisse-työpöytäherkkuja. Niistähän väitetään jopa olevan hyötyä eli tekevän KDE-työpöydän käytön joustavammaksi tms. Miten lie :?:

Toisaalta PCLinuxOS kai pohjautuu Mandrivaan. Siihenkin saanee 3Dtyöpöydän yms. tehoefektejä vieraille ihailtavaksi. Olisi kiva kuulla mielipiteitä, ihan tältä Mandriva-foorumilta, miksi pidätte enemmän Mandrivasta kuin PCLinuxOS:stä :)

Yleensä tämäntapaisiin kysymyksiin vastataan "On makuasia". Ehkä silti pitämisiäkin voi perustella.

Mandriva Free tietenkin tarkoittaa, että Mestisse- efektit edellyttävät, että sählään koneelle kaupallisen ohjainkorttiajurin ja teen muitakin asennussirkustemppuja. Kun kortti on Nvidia GeForce 6200, ovatko temput :shock:

Mandrivahan harrastaa klubijäsennyyden melkein pakkomyyntiä. Olinkin 2006 Mandrivan takia Clubin jäsen, joskaan en tajunnut, oliko siitä hyötyä. Pitääkö liittyä klubilaisiin?
